How does this work?
What does this comparison mean?
The atmospheric comparison is an immediate change in stock. Land and oceans can release some carbon back as concentrations fall, and temperature responds over time. The regional comparison is simply an amount divided by an annual emissions rate. Neither promises to recreate a past climate or predicts future emissions.
Data sources and boundaries
The book explains why these are scale comparisons, not a promise to recreate a past climate.
